Safari, A Monograph – The Print & The Process
Today sees the release of another in the truly excellent Print & Process series of Craft and Vision e-books by David duChemin. The images within were shot whilst David was ‘on safari’ in Kenya back in 2009 and as with the previous e-book (Venice – A Monograph) David takes you on a journey of thought and inspiration, from conception to realisation. Whilst not professing to be a wildlife photographer, you can’t help but see that not only are the images beautiful and of a kind that would make any wildlife photographer proud, they are also trademark David duChemin. His style is still evident, still valid when transposed in subject, and equally therefore, a testament to the idea that developing your vision is really where it’s at when it comes to the photographic learning and development processs.
Alongside the images (ok, pedantically a few pages before and after) David talks you through his experiences in such a way that you feel yourself beside him, listening, and seeing the landscape he’s travelling through. It’s the sign of great tutelage that you feel connected in this way and it all comes together to give a valuable insight in to the “why” behind each of the photographs. ‘Why’ is something I consider much more important than ‘how’ but, as with Venice, David also lets you in on the ‘how’ behind each image as well so, apertures aplenty!
Whilst not being a primer for his forthcoming book Vision & Voice: Refining Your Vision in Adobe Photoshop Lightroom, reading this has certainly whetted my appetite for more and to that end, included within the e-book is a link to download the free split-tone Lightroom preset that David has used on many of the images within. 62 pages of quality inspiration plus a Lightroom preset thrown in for good measure. You can’t say fairer than that, and once again compared to the price of a monthly magazine I can’t help thinking it’s a bargain!
And, like you didn’t know… OF COURSE there’s a special offer:
For the first four days only, if you use the promotional code SAFARI4 when you checkout, you can have SAFARI, A Monograph for only $4 OR use the code SAFARI20 to get 20% off when you buy 5 or more books from the Craft & Vision collection. These codes expire at 11:59pm PST JULY 11, 2010.
As with all my reviews there are two links here, one is affiliated (you get to contribute to this site) and one takes you direct to Craft and Vision (you don’t) and the choice is yours for whichever you use, the price stays the same.
