Sunday Round-Up – Yeehaa!!
Sorry. Next week i’m changing the title! Now i’m having visions of John, Buck, And Billy Blue Cannon riding out from the High Chaparral!
Things have been pretty quiet over the last week or 2 what with Christmas & the New Year, so the sunday round-up (unlike myself!) is looking a bit skinnier than i’d expect it to be. The most important thing that’s happened, well, for me at least … is the starting of this blog! I lost my internet for most of Christmas so the move onto the new server was delayed there, that in turn delayed everything else, but on the 28th December, this blog came to life. I’m planning an update schedule of something along the lines of 4 posts a week whilst I get settled in and then we’ll see where it goes from there. Four should be the minimum, more if I get the time, but I don’t want to commit to a daily schedule and then let people down as my family situation is still a big factor in how often i’m able to post.
Moving on to the good stuff and lets start with one of the things I love, Wallpapers. My own January wallpaper is available for download here and is a nice chilly wintry scene I shot a couple of weeks ago when we had the first of the snowfall here. Most of the roads were closed down making it impossible to get to anywhere out of the way but, a couple of the nearby reservoirs were still accessible and this shot comes from the banks of the Torside Reservoir.
David duChemin also has a wallpaper up over at his PixelatedImage blog here
Younes Bounhar has his available at his blog here
Assorted:
Whenever i’m stuck for ideas, this Photography Location Finder over at Photo Answers is a good place to start. Unfortunately it only covers the UK but if anyone knows of others that are available for other countries, let me know and i’ll throw a page together containing them all and stick it on an rss feed.
Sunday’s Independent has a nice list of 50 winter walks that not only contains some typically idyllic tourist traps, but also some nice locations for early morning/late evening photos. The speed of their website at the moment and you could probably manage the first walk whilst you’re waiting for the first page to load. It gets there eventually though!
Photography Fees. It’s a question that keeps cropping up and the NUJ has a freelance fees guide over here that should point you into the right ballpark.
The Daily Telegraph concentrates on the constant battle we seem to be facing with the Police and our freedom to take photographs. In the article they mention a march that will be taking place in London and details of that can be found here. Back over at the NUJ, there’s also an article updating the case of Photo-Journalist Andrew Handley who’s managed to get a settlement for his unlawful imprisonment and assault claim.
…and finally. Just to show that where there’s an idea, there’s a market! If ever you’ve struggled to work out how to use that shiny new iPhone, £40 a pop now gets you onto a photography course for mobile phone users! I can see the logic, but the mental image of a couple of dozen schoolkids sat around tables with their mobiles at the ready frghtens me!
